Watch Maker Course (WMC)
OBJECTIVE: This course will provide instruction by designing and making watch parts while utilizing the principles and techniques learned in previous courses and reinforcing the confidence needed to pursue this trade to the fullest extent. This course will prepare the student for an occupation as an expert watch maker.
(WMC1): 15 Hours Instruction $550.00
Building on the Watch Specialist Course, the student will learn how to use a lathe to “true” parts and polish arbors and pivots. Also, develop the expertise of measuring and exacting close tolerances. Pre-requisite: the student must complete the Watch Specialist Course.
(WMC2): 15 Hours Instruction $550.00
Study about the jewels used in horology. Remove and replace jewels. Check the freedom of the train and the power source – mainsprings. Pre-requisite: WMC1
(WMC3): 15 Hours Instruction $550.00
Become familiar with cases and their repairs, as well as watchbands, straps, etc. Repair dial feet and chipped faces. Pre-requisite: WMC2
(WMC4): 15 Hours Instruction $550.00
Disassemble a watch and clean and check each part. Check for discolored areas, scratched or damaged parts, and cracked or broken jewels. Reassemble and test the parts separately and together. Pre-requisite: WMC3
(WMC5): 15 Hours Instruction $550.00
Make the final adjustments with the winding and setting. Poise the balance wheel and true the hairspring. Adjust end shake and tolerance between parts. Put in beat. Pre-requisite: WMC4
(WMC6): 15 Hours Instruction $550.00
Do the necessary casework to restore it like new. Check all seals and check for water-tightness (if necessary). Complete the reassembly and check timekeeping in three positions. Pre-requisite: WMC5
